Booking a S.R.U.S.R referee ensures:

  • neutrality
  • a trained official or ‘team of three’
  • the match is covered by the Society’s RFU insurance

In return Clubs are required to provide the following as a minimum:

  • A qualified first-aider for each match
  • A ‘Steward’ to ensure appropriate touchline behaviour from spectators
  • A separate changing area for match officials. (if male and female referees are officiating on the same day, a separate ladies changing room).

A match fee is payable per game which includes the travelling expenses for official/s appointed to the game.  To enquire about joining the Society as a Club Member, please review the following pages to get setup on Who’s the Ref: Information for Clubs :

Who’s The Ref (WTR)
WTR is the system used nationally by England Rugby Football Union (RFU) for the appointment of all referees. North Midlands have been using this for many years now for management of fixtures, referee availability, fixture appointment and expenses.
The key to success is the information held within WTR. As a club please ensure that the relevant contact details of the positions below are up to date, preferably at the start of each season:
Club referee contact
Club fixtures secretary
Treasurer / Contact responsible for invoice payment
If the information held is incorrect or out of date the emails will be missed when assigning a referee and any subsequent follow up communications.
If you are a club coach/official, please check with your nominated club contact before requesting a referee. The club contact is only person who can add referee requests to the WTR database. The society can only appoint a referee when a fixture is placed on WTR.
How to Make Changes (WTR)
If and when you need to update WTR please follow the below process:
The new club contact or other position as mentioned above needs to register with WTR. To do this please click this link directing you to ‘Who’s the Ref’ homepage.
Click on ‘Register’, choosing rugby and club admin as shown below
In the comments box please ensure you provide the name of the club you are responsible for and the position within the club held, i.e. ref contact, treasurer etc

The incumbent contact, where possible, should email our Finance team to inform of replacement and the contact name of the new person.
Registering the finance contact is not essential, we ask that you do to ensure match fee invoices are sent to the correct person. If no finance contact is available we will send these to the club contact and communicate through them. The society preference is to hold the relevant contacts within WTR and send the communications as necessary direct.
The society’s club administrator will confirm by email when the change has been completed. If you need further training on WTR please check out the support hub on the website, left hand toolbar once logged in.
