Enjoying your summer off? What summer off?
With loads of 7s tournaments and the need to keep in trim for pre-season warm-up games that will be starting in August, gone are the days where May/June/July were spent ‘relaxing’ before dusting off the trainers and jogging around the block a couple of times.
One way of keeping some semblance of fitness over the summer months is to take part in any of the Parkruns that take place throughout the country. For those of you who have not heard of ‘Parkrun’ – it is a worldwide charitable organisation that puts on a 5km run every Saturday, usually at 9.00 am. Simply register for free on their website (www.parkrun.com), print off your barcode and turn up. Your run/jog/walk will be timed and you will receive an email with your results – usually by 1.00 pm that day. So, you can be uber-keen or simply enjoy the scenery (many runs take place in municipal parks).
Nearby courses include Crewe, Hanley, Newcastle, Stafford, Cannock Chase, Walsall and Wolverhampton. I know that Mark Liddell has run a few, so the Training Dept. may be interested in your times! Your chairman has now done 40 Parkruns and he reliably informs us that they are great social events and ‘Yes’ it does serve as a warm-up during the actual season for that afternoon’s game.
See you at Hanley Park or Cannock Chase?
